OASIS Preps SOA for Telecoms

The OASIS open standards consortium is launching a project to optimize service-oriented architecture software for the telecommunications industry.

The new effort will be known as the OASIS Telecommunications Services Member Section or OASIS Telecom. Founding members of the OASIS Telecom group, which will collaborate to optimize SOA for use in the telecommunications sector, include BEA Systems, IBM, Primeton Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, CA, Microsoft, NEC, Nortel Networks, Oracle, Progress Software and VeriSign. OASIS announced the formation of the new group April 28.

"We recognize there are gaps that prevent today's SOA standards from delivering the complete integration and interoperability that telecommunications providers need," said Abbie Barbir, a Nortel representative in the effort who is also co-chair of the OASIS Telecom Steering Committee.

Stronger regional presence drives the company’s global performance
 
Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (NYSE:SAY), a leading business and information technology services provider, announced that it has closed fiscal year 2008 with an impressive 46 per cent growth in global revenues, which has reached USD 2.1 billion. Company officials have revealed that the company’s stronger presence in the rapidly growing regional market is one of the primary drivers of this growth, which they expect to spill over the following year as they gear up to achieve a 26 per cent rise for the entire FY’09. The company’s aggressive strategy is focused on achieving its goal for the next quarter, as it eyes a 3 to 3.5 per cent growth to secure USD 631.7 to USD 634.8 million in revenues for Q1 FY ’09.
 
A review of the previous quarter has revealed that Satyam has achieved USD 613 million in revenues, 9 per cent more than the preceding quarter and up by 49.1 per cent compared to earnings from the same period in the previous fiscal year. In addition, the company’s net income in Q4 FY ’08 has also seen a 30.1 per cent year-on-year growth to reach USD 112 million, which is 2.4 per cent over than Q3. The quarter has also ushered in 32 additional customers, which included four companies from the distinguished Fortune 500 list. Moreover, the company also inducted a total of 1,122 associates, including 679 trainees to the organisation, taking the number of associates, subsidiaries and joint ventures to 51,127 across 60 countries.

Angel neutral on Satyam Computer Services

Angel Broking has downgraded its rating on Satyam Computer Services to neutral in its April 21, 2008 research report. "Satyam reported an impressive 10% qoq growth in consolidated Top-line for 4QFY2008, primarily driven by volume growth of 8.8% qoq (standalone). Pricing also saw continued upside, with offshore rates growing by 0.5% qoq and onsite rates by 0.6% qoq. This is the seventh consecutive quarter in which Satyam has achieved 8%-plus sequential volume growth."

"Going ahead, we expect Satyam to maintain a CAGR growth of 22.7% in Top-line and 13.2% in Bottom-line over FY2008-10E. We expect EBITDA Margins to remain under pressure and decline by 50-60bp annually over the mentioned period. At the CMP, the stock is trading at 14.5x FY2010E EPS. We have assumed a ‘best-case scenario’ for Satyam in terms of volume growth, pricing and Margin performance. Even so, the stock is still trading at slightly high valuations and given the risks inherent in Satyam’s assumptions for FY2009, we downgrade the stock to Neutral," says Angel's research report.

Computer Aid International has provided 500 PCs to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Osun State to help it carry out an ambitious ICT training project that started nearly a year ago. Despite the national economy's recent slowdown, 2008 college graduates still have high salaries and good job prospects awaiting them in a handful of growing fields.

Average starting salaries have risen across the board for the most part, according to a quarterly survey of 81 universities published Wednesday by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Engineering graduates fared well, with an average salary offer overall rising by 6 percent from spring 2007. Three of the top four entry-level salaries are all varieties of engineering and computer science, all averaging close to $60,000.
