OASIS Preps SOA for Telecoms
The OASIS open standards consortium is launching a project to optimize
service-oriented architecture software for the telecommunications industry. The new effort will be known as the OASIS Telecommunications Services Member
Section or OASIS Telecom. Founding members of the OASIS Telecom group, which
will collaborate to optimize SOA for use in the telecommunications sector, include
BEA Systems, IBM, Primeton Technologies,
Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, CA,
Microsoft, NEC, Nortel Networks, Oracle, Progress Software and VeriSign. OASIS
announced the formation of the new group April 28. "We recognize there are gaps that prevent today's SOA standards from
delivering the complete integration and interoperability that
telecommunications providers need," said Abbie Barbir, a Nortel
representative in the effort who is also co-chair of the OASIS Telecom Steering
Committee.

Angel neutral on Satyam Computer Services
Angel Broking has downgraded its rating on Satyam Computer Services to neutral in its April 21, 2008 research report. "Satyam reported an impressive 10% qoq growth in consolidated Top-line for 4QFY2008, primarily driven by volume growth of 8.8% qoq (standalone). Pricing also saw continued upside, with offshore rates growing by 0.5% qoq and onsite rates by 0.6% qoq. This is the seventh consecutive quarter in which Satyam has achieved 8%-plus sequential volume growth."
"Going ahead, we expect Satyam to maintain a CAGR growth of 22.7% in Top-line and 13.2% in Bottom-line over FY2008-10E. We expect EBITDA Margins to remain under pressure and decline by 50-60bp annually over the mentioned period. At the CMP, the stock is trading at 14.5x FY2010E EPS. We have assumed a ‘best-case scenario’ for Satyam in terms of volume growth, pricing and Margin performance. Even so, the stock is still trading at slightly high valuations and given the risks inherent in Satyam’s assumptions for FY2009, we downgrade the stock to Neutral," says Angel's research report.

The Pentagon's Corrupt "Military Analysts" Media Scheme
In Sunday's New York Times, investigative reporter David Barstow exposed television's "military analysts" on the Iraq War as sock puppets of the Pentagon who consciously peddle the Bush administration's talking points on Iraq while hiding their own vested economic interest in selling the public on the Bush administration's happy talk about the war.
This very long and very well-documented story lays bare the most blatantly obnoxious feature of the "Military-Industrial-Media Complex" which ensures that the airwaves convey the administration's major messages on the war day in a day out. The story should mobilize the blogosphere and news media figures who still have some integrity to demand immediate reform of a massively corrupt network system of covering military affairs.
For starters, the networks should be forced to fire every "military analyst" who has been recruited and accepted all-expenses-paid trips to Iraq, uncritically mouthed the administration talking points while concealing their special relationship or maintained vested financial interests in Pentagon contracts through business relationships with contractors.

In cyberspace they can't hear you scream
It's been dubbed "cybergeddon", the "digital mushroom cloud".
What would happen if well-organised hackers - criminal syndicates, agents of hostile nation-states or terrorists - disabled the computer networks that sustain the critical infrastructure of modern societies?
For Michael Chertoff, the head of the US Department of Homeland
Security, the threat is real, and likely to get worse. And he's not
shy of offering some alarming examples of how such a devastating
attack could unfold.
